Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Principal Duty and Responsibility

Serve as a receptionist and back up person by answering phones, greeting visitors, and responding to routine/specific inquiries or referring to appropriate staff member.

Supervise workstudy students and their biweekly payrolls.

Responsible for production of course materials, including examinations and study guides. Responsible for entering and maintaining course material on the web.

Work on a variety of office activities (letters, memos, reports) using Word, Excel, etc.

Responsible for ordering and keeping supply inventory.

ABET books – Maintain, update and organize all of the course material obtained from professors for presentation to accreditation teams.

Interact with students and prospective students, help to meet their informational needs.

Coordinate all set up and support functions related to the colloquia in the department. Prepare and post announcements on the website, WPI Today, send announcements out by email and set up the facility (e.g. refreshments) for the meeting.

Maintain department web pages and other multimedia outlets (electronic bulletin boards) using Content Management Systems.

Coordinate and support department summer outreach programs.

Maintain and update department library.

Graduate Program Support: Organize and record graduate committee meetings, maintain and update graduate student records, oversee the graduate student application process, correspondence, and information requests.

Create and update department literature brochures.

Maintain and update department display cases, bulletin boards and directory, unofficial department photographer

Maintain department Archives.

Help coordinate office/department events, project presentation day, open houses, and assist with special events.

Other departmental duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Requirement

High school diploma or equivalent, additional schooling and at least 3 years of secretarial experience.

Requirement

Ability and willingness to learn new skills (i.e., computer skills, technical writing, proof-reading, etc.) and adapt to changing job requirements.

Requirement

High level of judgment and confidentiality, and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of people.

Requirement

Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power-Point), knowledge of Banner a plus.

Requirement

Ability to work autonomously with initiative and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Requirement

Must work well with others.
