Basic Function

Reporting to the Associate Director for Impact & Innovation, the Librarian for Digital Impact & Innovation will have primary responsibility for maintaining and enhancing the library’s discovery strategies across multiple web-based platforms, assuring users a consistent, high-impact experience as they use library systems, services, and content. In support of these goals the Librarian for Digital Impact & Innovation will support and advise on library metadata strategies and services that assure discoverability of library content and services; and support excellence in user experiences of the library’s systems and web site, through analysis, design, and support of the library’s use of content management systems. In collaboration with library research and instruction services, they will also have the opportunity to participate in providing direct consultative or instructional support to students and faculty, with an emphasis on supporting emerging digital scholarship.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Principal Duty and Responsibility

Supports library discovery and content management systems, assisting senior library experts in planning, administering, and enhancing the effectiveness of library discovery and content management systems, including library services platforms, aggregated discovery tools, and electronic resources management, and related workflows; and providing support for effective discovery through support for metadata management services.

In collaboration with the Curation, Preservation, and Archives department, provides metadata and discovery support for digital platforms and systems that support institutional repository and digital collections services.

Facilitates planning, design, maintenance and assessment of the library’s web presence, providing project management and development services and working in consultation with university IT and marketing staff as needed to support the library’s delivery of library content and services using content management systems (CMS).

Participates in providing research and instruction services, including programs supporting digital literacies and digital scholarship, in collaboration with research and instruction librarians.

Investigates, evaluates, and shares emerging tools and technologies used in digital scholarship, and supports students, faculty, and researchers in planning digital projects and integrating digital scholarship into projects or the curriculum, using digital scholarship tools and techniques.

Position Requirements

Requirement

Demonstrated knowledge of metadata standards used in libraries, archives, publishing, and research management systems.

Requirement

Demonstrated experience using library service and content management systems, including at least one library product or system that manages library inventory, electronic resources, and metadata.

Requirement

Familiarity with principles and techniques of electronic resources management.

Requirement

Knowledge of current and recent trends in search, discovery, and delivery systems, and/or understanding of different user communities and user search behavior in academic settings.

Requirement

Knowledge of trends and developments in digital scholarship and enthusiasm for creative and approaches to using digital tools and systems to accomplish scholarly goals.

Requirement

Project management skills including strong listening and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and competing priorities.

Requirement

Ability to communicate and work effectively in an academic setting, with outstanding oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with diverse colleagues and customers.

Requirement

Knowledge of web technologies, metadata manipulation, web analytics, and accessibility standards.

Requirement

Knowledge of CSS3, XHTML, and HTML5, and scripting languages.

Requirement

Demonstrated flexibility, creativity and initiative.

Demonstrated knowledge of operations, services, and current issues and trends in academic libraries.

Requirement

Graduate degree in library or information science, or another relevant field, or equivalent experience.

Requirement

Preferred qualifications:

1. Experience working in an academic library setting.
2. Successful project management experience.
3. Knowledge of digital repository and metadata development/maintenance for local digital collections.
4. Knowledge and experience with web architecture, design/development, and administration in a CMS environment such as Drupal.
5. Knowledge of PHP, relational databases, and programming languages.
6. Demonstrated experience in using one or more of the following digital scholarship tools: data visualization, GIS tools and methods, 3D visualization and modeling, image analysis, text mining and analysis.
7. Demonstrated understanding of the research process including the impacts of new technologies on the production and sharing of scholarship.
8. Effective teaching and presentation skills.
